Inbox - Mail - Accounts - Tools - Outlook - Change / Verify/Update Recovery Email

Introduction

To change the recovery email on your Outlook accounts, you can use the Outlook Change Recovery Email tool in Inbox. You can use the Outlook Verify/Update Recovery Email tool to check if the recovery email assigned to your account credential matches what is currently on your Outlook account. If it does not match, Inbox automatically updates the account and removes any extra recovery emails.

Setup & Recommendations

Change Recovery Email

1. Navigate to the Accounts section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Accounts.

2. Select the accounts you want to set up email forwarding. Then click the Tools button and select Outlook Change Recovery Email.

3. If you want emails to populate in the emails tab after your account is logged in, enable the Sync mail after login checkbox.

4. If you want to force re-login into the credentials before changing your recovery email, enable the Force re-login credentials checkbox.

5. Select a Mail Task Template to use. The Mail Task Template is used if your accounts encounter 2FA codes that Inbox must handle via IMAP. You can assign catchall/forwarded emails to your Mail Task Template. Click here to learn how to create a Mail Task Template.

6. Select an SMS Task Template to use. The SMS Task Template is used if your accounts encounter SMS verification pages during the login or forwarding flow. You can assign third-party SMS credentials to SMS Task Templates to automatically handle SMS codes. Click here to learn how to create an SMS Task Template.

7. Optionally, you can specify a Custom Password to use if Outlook forces you to change your password during login. Inbox will automatically handle this and replace the existing password in your Inbox credential. If you leave this field blank, Inbox will generate a random 16-character password for each account.

8. Select the emails you want to use as recovery emails on your accounts. You can select accounts already saved to the Mail Accounts section in Inbox or provide a list of emails in the Emails section of the dialog.

9. After configuring the dialog, click the Start button. Your tasks will begin to change recovery emails. If they are successfully changed, the status will display "Recovery Email Changed." Your account credentials will automatically be updated with the new recovery email.
