Introduction
Email Credentials are used for the Mail section of Inbox. You can easily import and export your credentials via CSV format. You can import your credentials directly from Profile Builder to Inbox. You can export your Inbox credentials to Profile Builders account credential format.
Setup & Recommendations
- You can add many individual Mail Credentials or your main catchall/forwarded Mail Credentials.
- Most email providers require you to use an App Password to access IMAP.
- The setup for all the providers is different, so we have created separate guides for various Providers. Most providers require you to use an App Password. You can find the guides linked below
Create (Basic Auth)
1. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.
2. Click on the File button at the top left of the view, then the Create button.
3. Select the Provider from the drop-down menu and click Next.
4. By default, credentials are created in the All Category. You can override this and specify a category name to have your credential created into a unique category.
5. Specify the Email/Username for your mail credential.
6. Specify the Password for your mail credential. Most email companies require you to use an app password to connect to the IMAP server (excluding Outlook/Hotmail).
7. Optionally, you can specify an IMAP Proxy to use when connecting to the mail provider.
6. Once you have added the information, click the Save button.
7. Inbox will verify whether it can access the account and display a status message. If the Status shows Good, your Mail Credentials are set up correctly. If the Status shows Authentication Failed, ensure your login details are correct.
Create (OAuth2)
1. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.
2. Click on the File button at the top left of the view, then the Create button.
3. Select the Provider from the drop-down menu and click Next. (Currently, Inbox supports connecting to Outlook/Hotmail accounts through OAuth2.
4. By default, credentials are created in the All Category. You can override this and specify a category name to have your credential created into a unique category.
5. Specify the Email/Username for your mail credential.
6. Specify the Password for your mail credential. When connecting via OAuth2, you need to use your regular/normal password.
7. Specify a Proxy you want to use when logging into your Outlook/Hotmail account. We recommend using a proxy when logging into many accounts.
8. If your account has TOTP 2FA enabled, input your 2FA Secret Key. This will enable Inbox to automatically handle 2FA codes when they are encountered.
9. If your account has a recovery/alternate email associated with it, input the email in the Recovery Email field. If Microsoft prompts you to verify your recovery email, Inbox will automatically handle it if the Recovery Email field is filled out.
10. After configuring the dialog, click the Save button. Your accounts will be added to the tableview.
11. You can log in to your accounts by selecting them, clicking the Options button (or right-clicking the account(s)), OAuth2 Login, and then either Automatic or Manual. You should choose the Manual option if your account requires information we don't automatically support during the login phase.
Import
1. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.

3. By default, Mail Credentials are created in the All Category. You can override this and specify a category name to have your Mail Credentials created into a unique or existing category.
4. Click the blue spreadsheet icon. This will open the file explorer, and you can select the CSV file you want to import. You can create a copy of the example format by manually creating one account credential and then following the instructions below to export the account.
5. After configuring the Import Items dialog, click the Import button to add the Mail Credentials to Credentials.
Import From Profile Builder
1. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.
2. Click on the File button at the top left of the view, then the Import button, then click the OAuth2 as Profile Builder Accounts button.
3. A dialog will appear. In this dialog, you can select your Outlook/Hotmail accounts that you have saved in the Account Credentials section of Profile Builder.
4. Click the Import button after selecting the account credentials you want to import to Inbox.
5. You can log in to your accounts by selecting them, clicking the Options button (or right-clicking the account(s)), OAuth2 Login, and then either Automatic or Manual. You should choose the Manual option if your account requires information we don't automatically support during the login phase.
Export
1. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.
2. Select the accounts you want to export, then click the File button at the top left of the view and the Export button. Click the CSV option.
3. Click the Yes button to export the Mail Credentials you selected.
4. View the exported Mail Credentials file location by clicking the Yes button in the Completed - Export Items dialog. This will open the file explorer with your exported CSV file.
Export to Profile Builder
1. If you want to easily use the Outlook/Hotmail tools in Profile Builder, you can easily export your accounts from Inbox to Profile Builders account credential format. Learn more about Profile Builder's tools for Outlook/Hotmail accounts by clicking here.
2. Navigate to the Credentials section of Inbox in Mail. When you hover over it, an icon that looks like a book with a person on it is titled Credentials.
3. Select the accounts you want to export, then click the File button at the top left of the view and the Export button. Click the OAuth2 as Profile Builder Accounts button.
4. A dialog will appear asking if you want to open the exported file's location. If you wish to view the exported file, click the Yes button.
